Salvatek wins three coveted awards

Salvatek's original ViscoDisc™ insert, was recognised by the South African packaging industry, winning silver medals in both the components and export categories of the prestigious Institute of Packaging SA - Gold Pack Awards 2005 Competition. The judges admired the “innovative yet cost-effective solution” which is particularly pertinent for products sold into the export market.

To cap that achievement, it was presented with a 2005 World Star for innovative packaging from the World Packaging Organisation.

This unique snowflake shaped plastic disc emerged as one of the most successful new packaging innovations in South Africa in 2005.

Salvatek develops new insert for hard produce

Salvatek's design team has responded to requests from its customers to modify the design of its award winning ViscoDisc™ insert, to cater specifically for harder produce. The customers felt that the original insert sat too low in the jar and was over compressing their harder fruit as a result. There was also not enough space left in the jar to fill it correctly. While all of these are actually of benefit to bottlers of soft produce, they are not as acceptable to hard fruit bottlers.

Another challenge facing the design team was a request for an insert which did not require a "neck and shoulders" profile to retain its stability.

The ViscoDisc™ "hard" insert is the result of many hours of design work. Because it does not require the petals of the insert to "hook under" the shoulder of the jar, this insert sits much further up the neck of the jar. Its clever system of interlocking "petals" creates incredible stability and rigidity by creating a "box" shape within the neck.

The release of this new insert onto the market means Salvatek now has all the applications of the bottling industry covered and bottlers can be confident that whatever produce they are pickling, there is a ViscoDisc™ insert to protect their product from spoilage.
